Phone Problems

Phone problems -Skip this if tech stuff bores you

I got up fairly early (for me) at about 6 AM. Nothing much is going on at that time so I tried to get the feature that allows my iPhone to act as an Internet connection for my laptop (tethering) to work. It should be a no brainer but I had no luck so as a last resort I read the manual that came with the SIM package from JCR. I checked the contract to see if this feature was properly enabled and found to my surprise that I had someone else’s (let’s call him Bob) contract and SIM. I called JCR and they admitted that there had been an error. Bob’s stuff got put into my envelope. In the end I kept the SIM and the new number. So far I haven’t got any calls for Bob. This makes the 3rd phone number that I have received from JCR. The first one which I handed out was cancelled before I even got to Japan as they had provisioned a 4G instead of a 3G SIM. They sent me a 2nd number which should have been for the SIM that I picked up at Narita which I assume that Bob now has. Maybe I should give him a call. In the end tethering still did not work properly.

Update. I got it working tonight. DoCoMo whose network I am on is not an official iPhone carrier so some of the things that should happen automatically don’t. I knew this and manually entered some info as per the instructions supplied but the instructions were not clear on one point and I missed entering something.
